Lucy & Ben are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. When Ben reached out with the plan to propose at the gorgeous Haiku House, I was SO excited. The Haiku House is a property that most little girls from Maui have dreamed of getting married at (myself included). The property isn’t a wedding venue, but it’s available to rent out as a whole for a stay and retreats. You instantly feel relaxed when you enter the property. Haiku House has a pool, garden, a ton of orange trees (you’ll see photos below), a tree house, a yoga deck, and really anything else you can imagine.
Let’s talk about the proposal…
Lucy thought she and Ben were modeling for a styled shoot for the property. Ben had been planning the proposal for months, and man was it perfect. When we were planning the proposal, Ben said he had to propose right away as he would be too nervous/excited to wait until the end. We planned ahead of time for me to give a particular “pose” that would be Ben’s cue to drop the knee!
Whenever I photograph proposals, we always end with a Portrait Session. That the couple can leave the experience with images of the proposal and engagement photos. There are so many emotions going on when someone proposes so I’m always aware of that. I like to give my couples space and time to enjoy the moment together without me constantly telling them what to do. Ben & Lucy took the time to go on a walk alone (without me) and to FaceTime their family. Once all the crazy emotions were a little bit settled, we started our Engagement Session!
They got to pick fresh oranges from the Haiku House’s garden and pop champagne to celebrate from the front porch. I’ve never seen a champagne pop be as successful as this one! The Veuve Clicquot made it perfect!
